The catalyst industry is a growing sector in the rotary kiln market, with manufacturers realizing the benefits that come from kilns. Their ability to handle a wide range of materials, while allowing for constant 24/7 throughput, gives them superior material-processing ability compared to most alternatives.
However, while kilns are sturdy and built to last, they still require care and maintenance. The kiln drum and its rollers are particularly susceptible to damage, and problems with either element can significantly disrupt your operations. As one of the nation’s top providers of rotary kiln repair, we know what it takes to keep a kiln running for decades. These are the most important aspects of kiln maintenance.
Rotary Kiln Maintenance for Catalyst Manufacturers
1.Proper Alignment
Alignment is one of the most critical aspects of kiln maintenance. The kiln must be precisely balanced on its rollers, which in turn must be aligned to provide smooth uninterrupted rotations without wobble or jitters. Unfortunately, alignment can easily be thrown off over time. In general, the larger or more uneven the materials being put in the kiln, the more likely it will start getting thrown off-balance.
In addition, virtually any major repairs or upgrades will require the kiln to be re-aligned. This is best done by professional rotary kiln repair experts, as the alignment process can potentially take a few days.
2.Tire and Trunnion Repair
The tires and trunnions are the main point of contact between the rollers and the kiln itself, so it’s unavoidable that they will wear out over time. The faster the kiln’s rotational speed, and the heavier the kiln and its contents, the more quickly they’ll wear down. As they wear out, the tires’ surface becomes increasingly uneven, introducing vibrations into the rotation.
In cases where the wear is minimal, it’s possible to use a technique called tire grinding to smooth out the surface and restore proper operation. When the damage is extensive, or when the tire has been ground down too many times to keep grinding, they will need to be replaced.
3.Drum repair issues
Keep a close eye on the drum of your kiln! Any internal damage, such as cracks in the refractory layer, can translate to the exterior beginning to change shape. This can quickly alter the heat profile within the kiln. If you see any signs of exterior damage to your kiln drum, call for rotary kiln repair services ASAP before the damage gets worse.
4.Gears, seals, etc
There are numerous smaller parts and components which can wear out on a kiln, such as the gears powering the rollers, or the seals keeping the heat in. These should be monitored for defects, and replaced quickly to avoid any disruption to your processes or quality control.
